Bark Air Launches Luxury Air Travel for Dogs

In an unprecedented move targeting pet owners, Bark, the company known for its BarkBox subscriptions, is set to launch a luxury air travel service exclusively for dogs. Dubbed Bark Air, this innovative service is scheduled to take off on May 23, serving Los Angeles, New York City, and London.

Bark Air is not just another pet-friendly initiative but a fully-fledged private charter designed with the comfort and needs of dogs in mind. The airline addresses the numerous challenges faced by pets during conventional air travel, such as the discomfort of being confined under seats or in cargo holds.

Here’s how Bark Air plans to pamper its four-legged clientele: Dogs will enjoy a relaxed check-in process away from the usual airport bustle, complete with a meeting area and designated bathroom spots. Once aboard, the canine passengers can look forward to calming music, soothing pheromones, cozy jackets, and ear muffs. They will be allowed to roam free on laps, seats, or in beds, with the option to stay in carriers if they so choose.

The luxury doesn’t stop there; dogs will also receive gourmet in-flight snacks and beverages. Human companions must be at least 18 years old to accompany their furry friends, with each ticket accommodating one dog and one human for a price tag ranging between $6,000 and $8,000.

Though the cost is steep compared to regular flights, it reflects the increasing trend of luxury spending on pets, which has seen significant growth, especially following the pet ownership boom during the pandemic. As more people invest in the well-being and comfort of their pets, services like Bark Air are poised to redefine pet travel. Whether this high-end service will see high demand remains to be seen, but for those who consider their pets part of the family, no expense is spared.
