Gabriel, founded by Erick Coser and Otávio Costa Miranda, has raised $7 million in a funding round co-led by Qualcomm Ventures and Astella, with participation from existing investors including SoftBank. The Brazilian startup addresses safety challenges in Latin American cities by integrating smart cameras, named "Chameleons," into homes and businesses. Subscribers, including private citizens and homeowner associations, contribute to creating what Costa Miranda calls "Latin America’s largest urban intelligence infrastructure." The cameras, connected to Gabriel's network, assist authorities in addressing public safety issues. In the past year, Gabriel's network has helped identify an average of six crimes per day, marking a 5x increase. The new funding will support further technology development, allowing security entities to operate Gabriel's system independently. Coser and Costa Miranda aim to enhance the video monitoring system's capabilities and expand to additional cities, with a focus on São Paulo in 2024 and new launches in 2025.
